Thanks all for the tips, I restarted my campaign as Venice again (still at VH/VH). Hope my long winded answer helps somewhat:rolleyes: Not the best use of your money but it is an option. Of course the problem is that you are providing them funds to purchase units to attack you. Sometimes if you give them a steady stream of income you can raise them to neutral and then they are more agreeable to such an option. Same with ceasefires the computer does see it as a valauable option. That will cause them to switch to a lower stance almost every time which is then hard to chance while playing VH.

The one BIG issue I have is that you must manuver your stacks near any border regions so as not to cross the others territory by using the computers routing system. So even though you have done nothing a couple of turns later you are only neutral and several turns later very poor and so on until the computer decides it must attack. For example, you make an alliance with the HRE. As I mentioned on VH/VH the computer diplomacy with you drops each turn based on percentages. This reduces the chance of attack by the computer. One way to prevent this is to garrison all your territories that border another country with at least 8-10 units. Milan the same way with them adjacent to your territory feels that you are a threat and will attack. Does that mean that if playing Venice the same thing doesn't happen? No, but understand that by taking Zagreb for example, the HRE and Hungary both border it so they both would want it. I play on M/M since that is the balance point for the game. It is coded in the system as such and playing VH/VH it gives you less a chance to play properly. I much prefer the diplomacy of NTW.ДЄre you playing the vanilla version? If you are then the reason is that you have territory that those nations want. Just any general hints/tips would be appreciated. If you're in an Alliance, why get betrayed so soon? Especially when they were the ones who suggested it? (HRE)

I'm holding my own but due to incessant attacks by HRE and Milan (and now Hungary) I can't really focus on my goal of eliminating the Byzantines. I have good relations with the Pope but that's about it. Hungary is now at war with me for no apparent reason and even though I sent a diplomat and funneled them money (gift) they will not accept any type of ceasefire deal.

Sicily started a war but then quickly ended it. Then a few others started piling on, namely Milan. I tried starting off with an Alliance with HRE, but they immediately betrayed me like two rounds later and I have been unable to make peace. My initial goals was to eliminate the Byzantine empire so I could unlock and play as them. One thing I can't really get the hang of is Diplomacy.
